You can choose to blanket stitch by hand or machine, for hand, use stranded embroidery cotton in colours of your choice.
For machine applique use good quality machine threads such as rayon, cotton or polyester with a weight of either 40 or 50 which is fine to medium, avoid thick threads. For zig zag applique, choose medium shades such as medium pink, medium purple, medium green, medium aqua, medium yellow and medium blue. Smaller size reels should be enough.
If blanket stitching you could choose to use 1 colour such as dark grey to blend with all your fabrics, choose a large reel.
You will also need a fine thread for the bobbin such as Bobbinfil or Rasant. If using a light background, choose white, if using a dark or black background, choose grey.
For the quilting, choose a cotton or polycotton thread that is the same as your background fabric for the top and bottom of the block, choose a large reel.
For the echo quilting, use the same thread as above or a slightly different shade so that it stands out.
For the quilted twinkling stars choose a variegated cotton thread in a 50 weight.
